Elend Zyma (Elbasan, 1978) is a conceptual artist, painter and sculptor whose practice merges profound technical mastery with a rigorous investigation into matter and memory. Having trained under the painter Xhemal Lufta and graduated from the Onufri Art Lyceum in Elbasan, he moved to Italy to pursue his academic studies at NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) in Milan, where he studied under the painter Claudio Olivieri. He graduated with honours in 2001 with a thesis on the relationship between art and religion, entitled “Gjerba – Il Portale delle Bocche di Drago”, under the supervision of the artist Sandro Martini.
Driven by a passion for experimentation, he has a deep command of painting, sculpture and printmaking techniques. He selects diverse supports and media according to the demands of each artistic vision, maintaining a strong preference for recycled materials. In recent years, his focus has shifted toward sculpture and installations, giving voice to materials and the histories they carry, in a continuous, spiritual dialogue between artist and matter.
His works and large-scale installations have been featured in major institutional settings in Italy and abroad. These include the installation “DONNE IN ROSSO” at the Lombardy Regional Government headquarters and in front of the Cathedral of Monza; the sculptural work “Carpe Diem”, presented at the opening of Milan Design Week in the presence of distinguished institutional authorities; and exhibitions at prestigious venues in France such as Château Lascaris and the Palais d’Europe, as well as international events attended by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco.
He lives and works between Monza, Milan and the French Riviera.
